At the John Sudol Acting Studio, we take a full-service approach to working with actors. We offer theatrical, commercial and improvisational training, as well as career guidance and one-on-one coaching.

The Commercial Program is taught in 8 week basic training, advanced commercial training and improv for commercials classes.

The goal of the Commercial Program is to equip the actor with the skills and information necessary to gain the confidence to succeed in this highly competitive market. Our eight week commercial program is structured as a layering process – each new technique builds upon those that have already been learned.  John focuses on the three key aspects of doing commercials – action, dialogue and reaction – as well as how actors can protect themselves in auditions to ensure that they do their best work.

The actor will learn to define his or her type and quality, and incorporate that quality into various types of commercial copy.  Given a maximum amount of on-camera time, the actor will learn how to use his slate as a springboard into an audition, work with props, and use the camera to pull focus.

Also included is identifying the various types of commercials and their goals, breaking down copy so the spot works, finding the actor's obligations, and making the dialogue real. The actor will work with John's proven dialogue techniques and his approach to point of view and words of focusSpecial emphasis is given to one of the most difficult and misunderstood audition types, the reaction spot, for which John’s specially developed techniques will give the actor a competitive edge in auditions.

In addition to teaching a solid foundation of improv skills through exercises, games, short form improv and scene work, the 12 week Improv for Commercial Program class also focuses specifically on improv techniques that will translate into more powerful commercial auditions.  On-camera practice exercises are included.
